Overview

A warm welcome to the British International School of Tbilisi!

With students from over 50 different countries, BIST is a truly international, multicultural environment. Our culturally diverse student body is supported by the faculty, staff and administrators who themselves come to us from a number of different countries. All our teachers, who are native English speakers, are qualified and experienced professionals.

The British International School of Tbilisi is Georgia’s leading independent, co-educational day school with upwards of 520 students (Foundation to Year 13). We deliver a first-class holistic education that prepares students for the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century. Our comprehensive curriculum is built on the best of global and UK standards, and features the:

  • Cambridge International programmes and qualifications including Cambridge Primary, Cambridge Secondary 1, IGCSEs and A Levels
  • International Early Years and Primary Curricula

As a registered Cambridge school and a member of the Council of British International Schools (COBIS) and also a COBIS Patron’s Accredited School, BIST is committed to excellence in education, and offers internationally-recognised qualifications to our students.

FACILITIES

Our modern purpose-built campus, which extends over 17,000 square metres, is situated next to a natural lake, on the hills overlooking the city of Tbilisi. The state-of-the art facilities incorporate many important features that support innovative teaching and learning in the 21st century.

EDUCATION FACILITIES

Our academic buildings feature spacious and well-resourced classrooms to accommodate a dynamic learning environment. The specialist learning spaces throughout the buildings encourage students to work collaboratively, spontaneously, and creatively. These include our Innovation Centre (a multi-purpose technology space), a performing arts centre, and multiple open learning zones – designated open spaces for both group work and individual study. Our well-equipped ICT infrastructure, which includes computer suites, laptop and i-Pad carts, and computers and interactive whiteboards in all classrooms, enriches teaching and learning, and ensures that our students are well-prepared to engage with the information and communication technologies of the modern world.

The spacious atrium, hallways and other informal areas in the buildings have been designed to provide flexible, friendly learning spaces where students and parents can meet and build a sense of community. Students and teachers can explore an extensive array of books and resource materials in the Discovery Centre, use computers for research, enjoy a quiet space to read or study, or work individually or collaboratively on projects. Children and staff enjoy their meals in our colourful Lakeview Café with panoramic views of Lisi Lake and the surrounding hills.

SPORTS AND RECREATION FACILITIES

Our expansive sports and recreation centre (which includes a swimming-pool, sports hall, outdoor basketball court, tennis/volleyball courts, and all-weather playing field for football/rugby) helps to promote an active and healthy lifestyle, while also encouraging students to develop team-building and leadership skills.

Outdoor learning spaces and interactive playgrounds foster opportunities for imagination, creativity, and exploration in the natural world, and include facilities such as adventure play areas, go-karts, climbing walls, and water and sand play areas. Our proximity to Lisi Lake also offers the school an amazing resource which is used for multiple sports activities and outdoor learning opportunities such as orienteering, cross-country running, science trips, and volunteering at the local dog shelter.
